Acabado de salir del horno, como decimos. Aqui el ultimo "Wrap-Up" del Australian Bureau of Meteorology:

"Negative Indian Ocean Dipole dominates Australian climate
A new surge in strength of the negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), combined with a La Niña–like pattern in the tropical Pacific Ocean and seas around Australia, is strongly influencing Australian climate.

In the Indian Ocean, the negative IOD has strengthened, after easing somewhat during August. The weekly IOD index is close to the record values observed in July. Despite this recent re-intensification, climate models continue to suggest the IOD will weaken in the coming months, returning to neutral values before the end of 2016. During a negative IOD much of eastern Australia typically experiences above average spring rainfall.

In the Pacific Ocean, although some La Niña–like patterns are present, there remains limited connection between the atmosphere and ocean, and hence La Niña thresholds are yet to be met. A La Niña WATCH remains in place as some climate models indicate a late and weak La Niña is possible.

During La Niña, northern and eastern Australia typically experience above average spring rainfall, with the first rains of the wet season typically arriving earlier than average in northern Australia. At present, warmer than average seas surrounding Australia—which more typically occur during La Niña—mean some La Niña–like impacts may occur even if thresholds are not exceeded".

The latest 30-day Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) to 11 September 2016 is +8.6, edging over the boundary into La Niña range. The 30-day SOI has hovered around +7 for the past week. The 90-day value is currently +5.9.

Sustained positive values of the SOI above +7 typically indicate La Niña while sustained negative values below −7 typically indicate El Niño. Values between about +7 and −7 generally indicate neutral conditions".

Saludos Cycloneye y demas amigos foristas:

Pagina 3:

"ENSO-neutral conditions are present.*

* Note: These statements are updated once a month (2nd Thursday of each month) in association
with the ENSO Diagnostics Discussion, which can be found by clicking."

Pahina 8:

"During the last four weeks, negative
anomalies persisted across the east-central
equatorial Pacific and weakened in the
eastern Pacific".

No aun en la region 3.4

Pagina 11:

" Overall, positive subsurface temperature anomalies decreased following November 2015,
and became negative during March 2016. Negative anomalies strengthened during MarchMay
2016, followed by weakening in June and July 2016. Since mid-July, negative
anomalies have gradually weakened".

Pagina 12:

"During the last two months, negative subsurface
temperature anomalies weakened, but extended to the
surface in the east-central Pacific Ocean".

Que significa esto? Correlacion con las otras regiones? :?:

Pagina 14:

"Intraseasonal variability in the atmosphere (wind and pressure), which is often related
to the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), can significantly impact surface and subsurface
conditions across the Pacific Ocean".

"Significant weakening of the low-level easterly winds usually initiates an eastwardpropagating
oceanic Kelvin wave".

"Some indications of atmospheric coupling have emerged in recent weeks. August was the first month to show persistent below average cloud around the Date Line (typical of La Niña), and this pattern has continued during September. Likewise, the Southern Oscillation Index has exceeded La Niña thresholds for the past two weeks. Hence the ENSO Outlook remains at La Niña WATCH"

El SOI sigue sobre +7, estando ahora en +13.1.

Informacion adicional en el ENSO Wrap-Up, Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Hoy salio publicado ENSO: "Recent Evolution, Current Status and Prediction"

"By historical standards, to be classified as a full-fledged El Niño or La Niña episode, these thresholds must be exceeded for a period of at least 5 consecutive overlapping 3-month seasons (NOAA Source)".

"The latest 30-day Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) to 25 September 2016 is +13.1, above the La Niña threshold. SOI values have been above this threshold for the past two weeks, potentially indicating some enhanced coupling is occurring between the ocean and the atmosphere. 30-day SOI values had not previously exceeded the threshold value this year."

Post by ROCKstormSJ4315 »

Saludos Abito ROCKStorm y demas foristas.

Vamos a ver algunas paginas.

Pagina 3:

"ENSO-neutral conditions are present.

Equatorial sea surface temperatures (SST) are near or below average in the
east-central and eastern Pacific Ocean.

ENSO-neutral conditions are slightly favored (between 55-60%) during the
upcoming Northern Hemisphere fall and winter 2016-17".

No comentario especial.

Pagina 4:

"Since early October 2016, near-to below average SSTs have expanded into the eastern Pacific Ocean".

Creo que favorece a La Niña.

Pagina 5:

"Niño 4 -0.6ºC
Niño 3.4 -0.9ºC
Niño 3 -0.6ºC"

Creo que favorece La Niña.

Pagina 6:

"During the last four weeks, equatorial SSTs were below average across the central and
east-central equatorial Pacific, and near-to-below average in the eastern Pacific".

Tipico de un acercamiento a La Niña.

Pagina 8:

"During the last four weeks, negative anomalies strengthened near the Date Line and in the east-central equatorial Pacific. Negative anomalies have emerged in the eastern Pacific".

Favorece La Niña

Pagina 9:

"During the last four weeks, equatorial SST anomalies decreased across most of the
Pacific Ocean".

Mas parecido a un ENSO Neutral

Pagina 11:

"Overall, positive subsurface temperature anomalies decreased following November 2015,
and became negative during March 2016. Negative anomalies strengthened during MarchMay
2016, followed by weakening in June and July 2016. Since August, weak negative
anomalies have persisted".

Mas o menos Neutral a Niña debil.

Pagina 12:

"During the last two months, negative subsurface temperature anomalies weakened, but extended to the
surface in the central and east-central Pacific Ocean.

"During September and early October, negative temperature anomalies have strengthened at depth
near and east of the International Date Line".

Neutral a Niña debil.

Pagina 21:

"The most recent ONI value (July-September 2016) is -0.5ºC".

Niña Debil

Pagina 24:

"Most multi-model averages indicate borderline ENSO neutral/ La Niña conditions during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter 2016-17".

Niña Debil

Pagina 25:

"The CFS.v2 ensemble mean (black dashed line) favors La Niña during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter 2016-17".

The tropical Pacific Ocean remains El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral, however, some indicators have shifted closer to La Niña thresholds. Conversely, the negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) has eased, though waters off Indonesia remain at near record temperatures. This may see continued IOD impacts for Australia.

Sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the tropical Pacific Ocean have cooled over the past fortnight, consistent with a surge in the trade winds. The latest weekly NINO3.4 value of −0.6 °C—while still at neutral levels—is a value not seen since February 2012 (the end of the 2010–12 La Niña). Cloudiness near the Date Line and the Southern Oscillation Index have also shifted closer to La Niña-like levels. However, some forecasts suggest trade winds may return to near-normal soon. This could occur with the passage of the Madden–Julian Oscillation and would slow or cease any further La Niña development.

The majority of international climate models indicate the tropical Pacific is likely to remain at ENSO neutral levels through to the end of the 2016–17 summer. Two of the eight models suggest brief, weak La Niña levels are possible towards the end of 2016. The ENSO Outlook remains at La Niña WATCH.

With warmer than average sea surface temperatures to Australia's north and east, some La Niña-like impacts remain likely even if an event doesn't fully develop.

Negative IOD values have eased over the past fortnight, however this is mainly due to ocean warming off Africa. Waters off Indonesia remain very warm, and were second warmest on record for September. Models indicate the IOD will return to neutral levels by the end of spring. Spring in eastern Australia is typically wetter than average during a negative IOD or La Niña".
